Julian, California for apple picking

Wynola Junction Antique Store. Located 2 miles west of Julian

Julian, California got started as a gold mining settlement in the California gold rush of the 1870’s. Today it is a mountain retreat that is well known for its apple orchards and antique stores. Today we decided to take the drive out along highway 79 from Temecula. We traveled through about 50 miles of cattle country full of rolling hills that are dotted with ranches, then we made the brief climb up from Santa Ysabel to the high country of Julian. There are many antique stores as you approach the historic district and plenty of places to pull over and take it all in. During apple harvest season, September thru October, you can pick apples right off the tree and of course no trip to Julian would be complete without getting a couple of gallons of apple cider. Our favorite is the Julian Cider Mill Boysenberry Apple Cider. Of course there are apple pies at every turn. To see more pics click here and click on the Julian, California gallery.
